Tab Recorder is a Chrome extension that records a browser tab, Google Meet first, to a video file on your own computer. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data. The short version is that the extension is local first, it collects no data, and by default it sends nothing anywhere.

Data we collect

None.

Tab Recorder does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The developer does not receive your recordings, your microphone audio, your Google account details, or any usage or analytics data. There is no account and no sign up to use the recorder.

Matching the Chrome Web Store data categories, the extension does not collect or transmit any of the following to the developer or to any third party:

• Personally identifiable information
• Health information
• Financial and payment information
• Authentication information
• Personal communications
• Location
• Web history
• User activity
• Website content

Where your data lives

Everything the extension creates stays on your own device:

• Recording video files are saved to a folder you pick, or to your Downloads folder. A working copy is also kept in the browser's private, sandboxed storage so the dashboard can play your recordings.
• Recording details, such as the name, date, length, and size, are stored in the browser's local database on your device.
• Your settings are stored locally in the browser.

Uninstalling the extension, or clearing its storage, removes the details and the sandboxed copies. Files you saved to a folder or to Downloads stay where you put them until you delete them yourself.

No analytics and no tracking

Tab Recorder contains no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking pixels, no advertising, and no third party scripts. It does not phone home. It includes no remote code. All of its code ships inside the extension package.

With the optional Google Drive backup turned off, which is the default, the extension makes no network calls of any kind.

The optional Google Drive backup

Google Drive backup is an optional feature that is off until you turn it on in Settings and sign in with Google. When it is off, nothing about it runs and no network request is made.

If you choose to turn it on:

• Sign in uses Google's standard OAuth flow. The extension requests the least privilege drive.file scope. This means the extension can only see and manage files that it creates itself. It cannot read, list, or touch any of your other Google Drive files.
• A finished recording is uploaded only to your own Google Drive, into a folder named "Tab Recorder." Your local copy is always kept. The backup is an extra copy, never a move, and a failed upload can never lose a recording.
• The extension also reads your account email, so Settings can show which Google account is connected. That is the only account detail it uses.
• Network requests for this feature go only to Google (accounts.google.com for sign in and www.googleapis.com for the upload). No other server is ever contacted.
• Your Google sign in token is stored locally on your own device so that you do not have to sign in every time. It is never sent to the developer. You can disconnect at any time in Settings, which forgets the stored token.

When you use Google Drive backup, your use of Google Drive is governed by Google's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Permissions

The extension asks only for the permissions it needs to work. It does not use broad site access. It can run only on Google Meet pages and on its own pages. The full list of permissions, with a plain reason for each, is in the store listing and in the project README.

Children

Tab Recorder is a general productivity tool and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same page with a new effective date.
